Govt invites tenders for mobile portability

New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) The goverment has invited tenders for providing mobile number portability(MNP), Telecommunicatios Ministry said today.

MNP allows a subscriber to retain his or her existing telephone number in the event of shifting from one service provider to another irrespective of mobile technology.

The Department of Telecommunications will issue license for providing MNP services in the country, the Ministry added.

Rollout of MNP, originally scheduled in October 2008 in metros, is to be implemented in each intra-licensed service area (LSA).
