Geelani put under house arrest soon after his return from Delhi
Srinagar, Nov 25 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today put under house arrest immediately after his arrival at the Sheikh-ul-Alam airport here from Delhi.
A team of Jammu and Kashmir police put Mr Geelani into a waiting vehicle and dropped him at his Hyderpora residence.
A large number of police and security force personnel were deployed outside his house where he was informed about his house arrest.
Mr Geelani had yesterday announced from Delhi that there was no programme for today when he arrives here.
The HC chairman was in Delhi and Mumbai in connection with his treatment. He was scheduled to arrive here on November 14 and address an anti-poll rally at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) ground. However, all the flights were cancelled due to heavy snowfall.
People remained indoors this morning fearing another ''undeclared curfew'' on the arrival of Mr Geelani.
As the day progressed, life, however, returned to normal after a message spread that there was no ''undeclared curfew'' in any part of the city this time.
