Delhi Govt excise dept's pre-election drive to check bootlegging
New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) The Delhi Government has launched an anti-bootlegging drive in the city, in view of the November 29 Assembly elections, to prevent smuggling of liquor and its illegal sale, distribution and service.
The drive, which started on November 16, will conclude on Novembwer 29, the day of polling for the Assembly elections.
A similar drive will also be carried out on December 8, the day of counting of votes.
Nine district teams of the Excise Intelligence Bureau have been reconstituted into five compact teams each headed by a subinspector who will remain mobile, develop intelligence and randomly check the 26 main border points.
Four teams will concentrate on the Haryana border from where the maximum liquor is being smuggled while one team will keep a tab on the UP border adjoining East and North East districts.
The drive based in the input of the Excise Intelligence Bureau has resulted ub seizure of a large quantity of liquor and of more than 13000 bottles for the last 10 days.
The staff have been briefed to be on extra alert in the last three days before polling takes place.
