CPI activists court arrest: picketing stir on Tamils issue
Chennai, Nov 25 (UNI) Hundreds of CPI activists today courted arrest attempting to stage a picketing agitation before railway stations and Central government offices in Tamil Nadu, demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka to bring a halt to the killing of innocent Tamils there.
In Chennai city, more than 600 CPI men, including its Tamil Nadu unit Secretary D Pandian and former Secretary R Nallakkannu, were arrested when they assembled before Central railway station to stage a rail roko agitation.
As they were denied permission, the CPI workers blocked traffic before the railway station, affecting vehicular movement.
Puthiya Tamizhagam President Dr K Krishnasamy, MDMK Deputy General Secretary Mallai Sathya and AIFB functionaries were also arrested for participating in the agitation.
All the arrested were later released.
Similar demonstrations were also held across the state in line with the decision taken at the all party meeting convened by the CPI on the issue.
