Journalist's murderer identified in Assam
Kokrajhar, Nov 24 (UNI) Police today claimed to have identified the killer of local journalist Jagjit Saikia, who was shot dead on Saturday.
Under tremendous pressure to identify and nab the culprits, Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Arabinda Kalita confirmed that the main culprit had been identified.
He, however, refused to name the culprit, stating that it would hamper investigation.
A series of raids were being conducted in and around Kokrajhar town and police expected to nab the person by this evening. All entry and exit points had been sealed.
Ammunition and explosives had also been recovered during the raids, though police remained tightlipped regarding details.
Saikia, Kokrajhar correspondent of vernacular daily 'Amar Asom', was shot dead in Kokrajhar town on Saturday.
The Kokrajhar District Journalists Association had set a seven-day ultimatum for nabbing the culprits, warning of massive agitation if the police failed to do so.
