CPI to alliance with TDP, TRS in AP
Hyderabad, Nov 24 (UNI) In a significant political development, the Communist Party of India (CPI) in Andhra Pradesh today resolved to maintain unity among the Left parties and build a formidable alliance, comprisng the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti, to defeat the ruling Congress and keep at bay the BJP in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the State Council meeting held over two days, in the presence of CPI National General Secretary A B Bardhan and Deputy General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, the party said in a release here.
The party's state unit sent the resolution to the party high command for approval.
The resolution, a copy of which was released to the press, noted that the TDP had joined hands with the Left parties in opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal and staging joint-stirs against the nuclear agreement and ''anti-people'' policies of the ruling Congress both at the Centre and in the state.
