Legal steps to be taken to provide 3% quota for Arunthathiyars
Chennai, Nov 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said legal steps would be taken to provide three per cent exclusive reservation for Arunthathiyars from the 18 per cent quota given to the Scheduled Castes (SCs).
In a statement here, Mr Karunanidhi said the one-man commission headed by retired Madras High Court Judge M S Janardhanam in his report submitted to the Government yesterday, had recommended three per cent quota for Arunthathiyars in Government Educational institutions and jobs from within the 18 per cent given to the SCs.
The Commission's report would be discussed in the State Cabinet meeting on November 27 and based on the decision taken at the meeting, the government would take legal steps to ensure exclusive reservation for Arunthathiyars, he added.
Mr Karunanidhi said Justice Janardhanam, after analysing all parametres, had recommended the three per cent reservation based on their population, which included Aruntathiyars and other sections like Chakkiliyars, Maadhaaris, Adi Andhrar, Pagadai, Madiga, and Thotti.
Arunthathiyars are a sub-caste of the Scheduled Castes (SCs).
