Godavari Water for second crop for entire delta

Kakinada, Nov 23: The east Godavari district Irrigation advisory board at its meeting with Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi in the chair, has unanimously resolved to supply water for second crop for the entire delta besides under Yeleru canal system.

This beneifts 10.16 lac acres ayacut in Godavari eastern, western and central deltas and 53,000 acres under Yeleru canal system.

As was in the past, the board felt that water could not be released for the ayacuts under the lift irrigation schemes and medium irrigation projects owing to inadequate water levels in Godavari river and critical power supply position.

Another important decision taken was to close the canals from April 10 to June 10 next year for taking up modernisation works.

It was also decided to commence the Yeleru canals system modernisation works from March next for which already Rs.138 Crores was released.

Of the total 19 MLAs. only four attended while none of the three MPs or the Ministers were present at the meeting.
