Residents prevent officials from cleaning and levellig land

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 22 (UNI) Residents of the Burma colony at suburban Navalpattu, here today allegedly prevented revenue officials' attempt of cleaning and leveling a piece of land, allotted to the Burma Tamil repatriates, for establishing a proposed IT park.

Mr Rayar President of the Burma Colony Farmers Association claimed that 34 Burma repatriates were given two acres of land each in 1964 for farming. The repartriates were dependent on these plots for their livelihood. But the Government wanted to acquire the land.

Hence, a group of revenue officials came to clean and level it, he added.

However, on information, senior officials rushed to the spot and removed the agitators with the help of police and advised them to present a memorandum to the District Collector. Later, officials resumed the levelling work.
