PM to inaugurate 96th Indian Science Congress at Shillong on Jan 3

Kolkata, Nov 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 96th Indian Science Congress (ISC) at Shillong, first time in the North-East, on January 3.

More than 200 premiere organisations from across the country are expected to participate in this mega scientific expo which will continue till Januray 7.

Announcing this here last night, Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) general president T Ramaswamy informed that, the focal theme of the Congress would be '' Science education and attraction of talent for exellence in research ''.

According to Dr Ramaswamy, the 96th session of the ISC would offer both historical perspective and geographical uniqueness as it would have discussion on local action for simulating Indian science education and seek excellence in research.

''It also plans discussion on technology and societal responses to the global concern on climate change and focusses on action of the present for meeting the dreams of the future of rising India ''.

''Pride of India '' a mega science exhibition would be major attraction of the science congress, Dr Ramaswamy said, adding the exhibition would showcase emerging technologies, products, services, innovations research works and achievements of the countrys public and private sector organisations, government departments, research labs, educational Instututions and defence units.

The first Indian science Congress was held in Kolkata in 1914.
