Heavy rains likely as low pressure persists over Bay
Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) Heavy rains were forecast for the next 24 hours as the trough of Low Pressure area over South West Bay and adjoining West Central Bay off Sri lanka, Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast persists today.
Weather office sources said under its influence rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Heavy rains are also likely to occur at a many places over Interior Tamil Nadu with isolated very heavy rain over Coastal Tamil Nadu and in Interior Tamil Nadu.
Chennai would have a generally cloudy sky with few spells of rains or thundershowers with heavy showers in some areas.
Meanwhile, the Chennai city received continuous downpour all through the night and till this noon, flooding several low lying areas.
While Nungambakkam received 84 mm of rain during the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hrs today and the suburban Meenabmbakkam received 40 MM of rains.
Arterial roads and bylanes came under thick sheet of water, narrowing down the margin of space in the roads, leading to traffic jams.
Several parts of Tamil Nadu, including the coastal Cuddalore District received copious rains.
