EU team visits fishing harbour in Daxina Kannada
Mangalore, Nov 22 (UNI) A three-member European Union team today visited the fishing harbour here and expressed satisfaction over the hygiene standard being maintained by fishermen and authorities in the district.
Fisheries Assistant Director Maheshwaran said the team, which had visited the harbour area in and around Daxina Kannada fisheries ports where major fish-based industries are located, expressed satisfaction over adoption of high standard of hygiene norms.
The team, accompanied by officials from the Export Inspection Council, Export Inspection Agency and the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), also visited the fisheries harbour and other nearby places where fish catches were handled before exporting to the EU and other countries.
Mr Maheshwaran said the team also visited an ice plant and inspected quality of the ice manufactured, water used and ice storage facilities.
Mangalore alone contributed 60 per cent of the total fish export from Karnataka.
