CPI State Committee meets to discuss poll alliance

Hyderabad, Nov 22 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Andhra Pradesh today began a crucial two-day State Executive meeting to finalise the party's electoral strategy for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, CPI National General Secretary A B Bardhan said, ''we are ready to join hands with those parties, which had been with us in the past but committed a mistake later by parting ways with us. Such parties have to make up their mind.'' ''As we are approaching decisive elections, we are in talks with like-minded parties in Andhra Pradesh and other states,'' he said, adding that the Left parties would strive to build a Left, Democratic, Secular front in the country.

''Left unity is the basis for building an alternative to the fronts led by the Congress and the BJP,'' he said and added that both the CPI and CPI(M) should take a common stand on poll ties with other parties.

Earlier, speaking to Mediapersons CPI State Secretary K Narayana termed as media speculation the reports that the CPI state unit was for an alliance with the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) floated by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi.

''We have reported to the Central leadership on the present political situation in the state. We will abide by whatever decision the party high command takes on ties,'' he added.
