50 Doctors to join Health Dept in remote Andaman Islands
Diglipur, Nov 22 (UNI) Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh today said 50 doctors will soon join the Health Department in remote parts of the Islands.
Terming this as one of the biggest achievements of the administration, he said after joining of these doctors the health scenario of entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands will improve considerably.
At present the Union Territory has only one referral government hospital, with modern facilities at Port Blair, the capital city. In most of the other scattered islands and villages the administration has built up Community Health Centre (CHC), Primary Health Centre (PHC) etc, with limited number of staff and doctors.
Due to acute shortage of physicians, for specialised treatment, the islanders were presently being referred to various hospitals of Mainland India.
The Lt governor was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign of the UPA government at Diglipur Islands of North Andaman region.
