Rs 40 lakh sanctioned for weed removal: Minister

Kottayam, Nov 21 (UNI) Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma today said the state government had sanctioned Rs 40 lakh for removal of hyacinths and other weeds detrimental to environment and fish wealth in lakes in Kuttanad, Vaikom, Kottayam, Ambalappuzha, Alappuzha and Kochi.

Inaugurating a workshop on eradication of hyacinths at Vaikom today, he said the fisheries department had been asked to call for tenders for removing the weeds.

Mr K S Manoj, MP, and legislators K Ajith, Thomas Chazhikadan, Thomas Chandy, P Thilothaman, A M Arif, K Babu and C M Dinesh Mani also addressed the workshop.
