No Friday prayers offered in historic Jamia Masjid in Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 21 (UNI) For the second time in the history of Jamia masjid, no Friday prayers were offered today due to undeclared curfew imposed by the authorities in the city.
''This is the second time in recent months that no Friday prayers were offered in the mosque in the Shar-e-Khas'' said spokesman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Advocate Shahidul Islam.
He said people were not allowed to offer prayers in the mosque.
On November 7 due to similar restriction, Friday prayers in the mosque were not offered for the first time since the historic mosque was built. The restriction were imposed following a Jamia challo call given by the Coordination Committee (CC), spearheading the agitation in Kashmir, on November 6.
Meanwhile, HC chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and about a dozen other separatist leaders remained under house arrest to prevent them from addressing anti-poll rallies in the valley.
