Madan Tamang escapes Darjeeling after GJM's "fatwa"
Siliguri, Nov 21 (UNI) Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League president Madan Tamang today left Darjeeling, two weeks after GJM's ''fatwa'' to him to quit hills, for an unknown destination.
DSP, Headquarters, Darjeeling, Mohan Chettri confirmed that Mr Tamang had left Darjeeling in the morning for an unknown destintion.
His house recently came under attack by the GJM supporters.
When UNI contacted Mr Tamang over phone, he refused to give details.
Intelligence sources said Mr Tamang flew to Kolkata via Bagdogra airport this afternoon.
Earlier, Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) president Subash Ghisingh was forced to leave Darjeeling after violent movement, spearheaded by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha demanding Gorkhaland. The GJM had issued a ''fatwa'' to all the anti-GJM people to leave hills.
Mr Ghisingh, who had been ruling Darjeeling since 1988, was forced to leave hills and residing in Siliguri.
GJM president Bimal Gurung in a meeting at Darjeeling Gymkhana hall today called for an immediate second tri-partite talk among the Union government, West Bengal and the GJM to sort out political issues relating to hills.
