Haryana raises gift limits for government employees

Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) Haryana Government today raised the limits fixed for accepting gifts by any government employee from Rs 500 to Rs 4000.

The state cabinet, in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, gave approval for The Government employee can accept gifts from his near relatives and friends upto value of Rs 4000 on the occasion such as weddings, anniversaries, functions or religious functions, when conferring gift was in conformity with the prevailing religious or social practice.

However, he had to make a report to the Government if the value of any such gift exceeded Rs 4000. Earlier, the limit for accepting the gift was Rs 500.

In any other case, the Government employee would not accept or permit any member of his family or any other person acting on his behalf to accept any gift without the sanction of the Government, if the value exceeds Rs 1000 for Class I and Class II employee and Rs 500 for Class III or Class IV employee.

The revision had been made from Rs 100 to 1000 and Rs 50 to Rs 500. The amendments in rules 13(2), 13(3) has been made for the revision in the limits fixed for accepting the gifts by any government employee on the recommendation of the Chief Justice and Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
