Markets close on high note, Sensex at 8,915 pts

Just In: The Sensex shot up 464.20 points or 5.49 per cent, to close at 8,915.21, after hitting an intraday high of 8,988.03. The 50-share National Stock Exchange's Nifty shut shop at 2693.45, down 5.50 per cent or 140.30 points over previous close. It has hit a high of 2718.60.

BSE Sensex fell eight points to 8,442 and the NSE Nifty gained eight points to 2,544 at 1:58 hrs IST. Nifty Nov Futures added about 26 lakh shares in the Open interest. Realty index fell over 8 per cent.

The Sensex gained 285 points to 8,736 and the Nifty jumped 82 points to 2,635, at 10:50 hrs IST. BSE Midcap Index surged 1 per cent and Small Cap index rose 0.5 per cent.

Mumbai, Nov 21: Indian markets opened green on Friday, Nov 21 taking ques from the recovery of Asian markets after the Bank of Japan held its benchmark interest rate at 0.3 pc after policy makers warned cutting borrowing costs further may discourage lending rather than promote it.

At 9.56 am Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex climbed 70.57 points to 8521.58 from Thursday, Nov 20's close. While National Stock Exchange's Nifty rose up to 43.20 points to 2596.35.
