BJP leader Vijay Verma shot dead in UP

Varanasi, Nov 21: BJP leader and former corporator Vijay Verma was on Friday, Nov 21 shot dead by unidentified assailants in Luxa area of Varanasi.

Four motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire upon the leader, when he was sitting in a 'vyayamshala' along with his friend Prabhunath Verma, police said. Vijay died on the spot, while Prabhunath, who sustained severe bullet wounds in the incident, has been admitted to a local hospital. Vijay was the corporator of Varanasi Nagar Nigam from Ramapura area and was also the president of BJP's Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Mandal. His mother Basanti Devi is presently a corporator.

The reason behind the killing, however, remained a mystery. Police was yet to make any arrest in the connection.
