Alert passer by , villagers avert mishap

Karur, Nov 21 (UNI) Thanks to timely information given by a passer by and villagers of K Pettai, a major train mishap was averted between Thimmachipuram and Melakurapalayam railway stations on the Tiruchirapalli-rode broad gauge section, near here today.

Railway sources said, the villagers and the passer by noticed a major crack on the track and informed a local gangman, who in turn alerted his higherups.

Following this, a seven member team of engineers from Tiruchirapalli went to the spot and fixed it temporarily to restore traffic with the caution to drive slowly.

Following this, the Karur-Tiruchirapalli passenger was detained at Lalapet for about 30 minutes and Tiruchirapalli-Erode passenger at Kulithalai railway station for about 30-minutes, the sources added.

The crack was later set right permanently.
