Villianur commune panchayat employees stage demo

Puducherry, Nov 20 (UNI) Employees of the Villianur commune panchayat today locked up the office and held a demonstration to protest the transfer of an assistant engineer Ramanathan to Karaikal region.

It may be noted that the Council meeting of the commune panchayat adopted a resolution seeking to recall Commissioner Anichan for his failure to take up any developmental works and to earn revenue to the panchayat and handed it over to the Local Administration Department Director Vallabhan. But instead of the Commissioner, an assistant engineer was transferred. To protest this the employees wore black badges and resorted to a demonstration after locking up the office.

The employees also announced that their strike would continue till the transfer order of Ramanathan was withdrawn and sent memorandum to the Lt Governor, Local Administration Minister and Secretary to Local Administration Department in this regard.

However, People were affected as they could not obtain any certificates from the panchayat.

Meanwhile, an emergency Council meeting of the Villianur commune panchayat was convened under the presidentship of Mr K Natarajan and once again a unanimous resolution seeking removal of the Commissioner Anichan was adopted and handed over to the Local Administration Minister Mr Namasivayam.
