TN: Dist collector inaugurates TRIOGS programme

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 20: Tiruchirapalli District Collector T Soundiah has inaugurated an adolescent anaemia control programme organised by Parents Trust and Trichy Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Society (TRIOGS), at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Wednesday, Nov 19. Inaugurating the programme, Mr Soundiah said adolescence was crucial for children as they undergo physical and psychological changes. Hence, it was essential for the student community to keep themselves healthy. Fifty per cent of women, who had died at the time of pregnancy in the district were found to be anaemic. The aim of implementing the nutritious noon meal scheme with eggs thrice a week was to ensure that poor children get healthy food, he added.

T Jayanthi Ranee, Managing Trustee, Parents Trust said 25 per cent of the country's population were adolescents and most of them were unhealthy. As many as 100 girl students would be checked under the anaemia control programme every day, Ms Jayanthi said, adding a follow-up would be done after three months.
