Repolling in Kashmir peaceful
Srinagar, Nov 20: Repoll in two polling stations in Sonawari constituency of Kashmir and two booths in Kargil Assembly segment was going on peacefully. According to official figures, more than 50 per cent voters had cast their votes in two polling booths in Sonawari while poll percentage in two booths in Kargil was above 60 per cent.
The figures said out of 763 votes in Poshwari-A polling booth, 407 votes were pollled while in Poshwari-B out of 738 votes, 378 were polled in Sonawari constituency during the first 5 hours.
Out of 601 votes in Apati polling station in Kargil segment, 483 had cast their ballots while in Chaliskote booth out of 718 votes, 318 were polled during the same period.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had ordered a repoll in these polling booths on the basis of the reports of the Returning Officers and the Observers and also taking into account all the material circumstances.
The ECI has, under sub-section (a) of Section 68 of the Jammu and Kashmir Representation of People's Act, 1957, declared the polling taken on Nov 17 as void and has fixed today for repoll.
