Maruti increases export target,not impacted much by recession
Kolkata, Nov 20 (UNI) Unperturbed by the economic meltdown and the recent drop in sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has enhanced its overall export target to 200,000 units by 2010-11.
This was informed here today by Company MEO M M Singh while unveiling the state-of-the-art car "A-star." Mr Singh said "A-star," produced at the company's Manesar plant, would contribute half of the export target as Maruti Suzuki planned to commence exports of the new car to Europe early next year.
He said "A-star" would be avilable in over 200 variants and exported to around 150 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, Australia and Africa.
''The worldwide economic slowdown had an impact on our business strategy, but we are deliberating on newer ways and means to overcome the crisis,'' he observed.
Mr Singh said at present the "green car" would be available in the city in three variants priced (ex-showroom) at Rs 3,47,899, Rs 3,76,162 and Rs 4,13,162 respectively.
Powered with a new engine and fuel efficiency, he said, "A-star" was truely a green car with no compromise as the new model met the European ELV norms which implied that 85 per cent of the car was recyclable.
In addition, it was free from hazardous materials like Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Chromium, he added.
