Mete urges Maratha legislators to press for reservation

Mumbai, Nov 19 (UNI) Shiv Sangram chief Vinayak Mete has urged all Maratha legislators to press for 25 per cent reservation for the community under the Other Backward Caste (OBC) category, during the upcoming winter session of the Maharashtra legislature. Mr Mete threatened to stage a dharna during the session at Nagpur and organise a state-wide agitation from December 20 to press for the demand.

Speaking to reporters here yesterday, he asked the state government to implement the proposal, seeking 25 per cent reservation quota within the existing reservation policy, before declaration of general elections in Maharashtra.

Citing examples of reservations for the Gujjars in Rajasthan and Muslims in Andhra Pradesh, he argued that there was no need for a commission on the issue. He said a conference will be organised tomorrow to discuss the reservation.
