WB: 2 killed as overhead mast hits them
Barrackpore, Nov 19: Two passengers were killed and four others seriously injured, when they were hit by an overhead mast while the train they were travelling in, passed through Belghoria railway station in Sealdah division of Eastern Railway on Wednesday, Nov 19 morning. Government Railway Police said the passengers were reportedly hit by an overhead electrification mast, which was too close to the down suburban tracks, near the CCR bridge of Belghoria railway station.
All the six injured were admitted to a nearby local hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
Meanwhile, angered by the incident, local passengers raised a blockade on the railway tracks, disrupting train movement in the Sealdah-Ranaghat section for several hours since this morning. They demanded immediate removal of the overhead mast which had reportedly injured several passengers in the past.
Senior railway officials of the Sealdah division have rushed to the spot.
