Train driver, assistant, suspended for overlooking signal

Nagpur, Nov 18 (UNI) The railway administration has suspended a driver and an assistant driver for allegedly putting the lives of passengers in peril by overlooking a red signal that led to a near-collision between two trains here last week, officials said today.

The incident occurred when driver, C C Pine, and assistant driver, O P Sharma, were driving the 2406 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bhusawal Gondwana Express to Nagpur railway station on saturday last.

According to official sources, the 2105 Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express was waiting at a platform at the Nagpur railway platform at that time and the Gondwana Express came on the same line.

A head-on collision was averted as Gondwana Express was travelling dead slow and the driver applied the brakes in time, the sources added.
