Mangaluru, Nov 18: Ganapathi Bhat, joint director of Department of Fisheries and programme coordinator of Malpe Fisheries Port, said: "Consumers" health must be our focus. Hence, cleanliness and maintenance of hygiene is important."
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a camp on 'Cleanliness and hygiene awareness,' organised by the College of Fisheries, in association with the Department of Fisheries and Lions Club, in the Old Port here on Monday, Nov 17.
However, some fishermen were found to be unaware of the camp happening next to them.
"These programmes are organised frequently, but we are never informed," said Diwakar, a fisherman.
Naveen Balegar, general secretary of the Fishermen"s Association told that the planning of the port was not proper.
“If there is no proper channel for the water to flow, how do they expect us to keep clean fish?" he asked. “An inspection team is coming from Europe next month and hence they are stressing on cleanliness now," Mr. Bangera said.
