Tribals-sponsored 12-day-long road blockade withdrawn
Midnapur, Nov 17 (UNI) Six major tribal organisations today decided to withdraw their 12-day-long road blockade movement spreading over the tribal areas in West Midnapur District following a high-level meeting with the district administration.
The organisations included All India Majhi Maroa, Juan Gaonta, Adibasi Social Educational and Cultural Association (ASECA), All India Shantali Writers' Association and All India Tribal Engineering Forum.
The district administration was represented by District Magistrate N S Nigam and SP Rajesh Singh.
The tribal organisations were led by Nityananda Hembram, Disam Majhi (Chief of Majhi Maroa), Dukhiram Hansda and Rupchand Hansda.
After the meeting, the District Magistrate and Nityananda Hembram held a joint press conference where it was announced that the road blockade programme would be withdrawn and all roads cleared from today itself.
The District Magistrate in turn reciprocated the good sense now prevailing over the tribal organisations and expected that the tribal movements would stop thereafter.
The District Magistrate said the 29-point memorandum, submitted by the organisations, had been seriously considered.
Henceforth, developmental projects as well as administrative measures in the tribal areas as suggested by the leaders could be paid attention.
