Oil blockade fails to evoke response in Assam
Tinsukia, Nov 17 (UNI) A 36-hour oil blockade called against Oil India Limited (OIL) in eastern Assam's Tinsukia district failed to evoke much response today.
Barring isolated instances of disruption in work at a few sites in the early hours, the blockade went off without affecting much the OIL's activities.
Work in the Duliajan headquarters was not affected, with workers reporting of facing problem in reaching some sites when blockade enforcers tried to halt vehicles. However, work started at all sites later in the day. Three blockade supporters were also reportedly picked up.
The blockade was called by the Duliajan units of five students' and youth organisations demanding fulfilment of their five-point charter, including the demand for appointment of unemployed local youth as unskilled labour.
