Gujarat's first Metalab launched in Jamnagar
Jamnagar, Nov 17 (UNI) Gujarat's first ultra-modern common metal testing centre ''Metalab'', a joint venture between Jamnagar Factory Owners' Association and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), was launched here today.
Jamnagar is known for its brass industry, which was established almost 75 years ago. According to Jamnagar industry sources, there are about 4500 small and tiny units, which manufacture various types of brass products.
There are around 600 units engaged in casting and 20 in extrusion. The industry gives direct employment to about 50,000 people and more than 1,50,000 persons get indirect employment, according to Ramjibhai Patel, president, Jamnagar Factory Owners' Association.
