London, Nov 16 : A great-grandmother was barred from boarding a bus as her grocery trolley was dubbed as a 'safety hazard'.
Glenys Hughes, 76, was on her way home after a hospital appointment for a knee problem, when she was booted off the bus as her pull along trolley might block the aisle.
There were only about a dozen passengers on the bus at the time.
Glenys begged to be let on but the driver refused to acknowledge her request.
"It was the worst day of my life. He shouted 'Get off' at me. I felt humiliated," The Sun quoted her, as saying.
Sholto Thomas, operations director for bus operator Stagecoach at first defended the ban, claiming that the vehicle was not designed to take trolleys.
However, the firm later apologised: "We offer sincere apologies. Rules should be applied with common sense."
