Govt committed to the welfare of handloom workers: CM

Nalgonda, Nov 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said his government was committed to the welfare of the handloom workers and handloom sector in the state.

Inaugurating a world class handloom park constructed at a cost of Rs 47 crore at Kanumukkala village in Pochampallil mandal of the district here, he said the state government had decided to develop handloom parks in the state with a view to provide permanent employment to handloom workers.

Announcing that each handloom worker would receive a monthly income of Rs 4,000 by working eight hours in the park, he said with a view to help the handloom workers and the sector, his government had reduced excise duty on silk yarn upto nine per cent and would provide subsidy for yarn to weavers.

Urging the Centre to extend help for waiving a loan component of Rs 330 crore given to the handloom workers, he said a fund would be allocated for it in the next budget and a GO would be released in this regard.
