BBM agitation against Dow Chemical Plant in Chakhan

Latur, Maharashtra, Nov 16: A large scale agitation would be launched against the Dow Chemical Plant, to be set up in Chakhan, near Pune, Bharip Bhaujan Mahsangh (BBM) president Hanumantrao Upre said here.

Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Mr Upre said the movement, to be launched in 26 districts, will be led by Warkari Santbhumi Sanrankshan Sangharsha Samitee with the support of his party.

Mr Upre wondered why the state government was protecting the US-based Chemical multinational company when the locals were against it. He said his party was supporting the Warkari sect and environmentalists, who are opposing the Plant fearing environmental degradation.

The government would face severe defeat in the upcoming election if it continued with the project, he said.
