Agri experts warn of blight disease on potato crop

Ludhiana, Nov 16 (UNI) High humidity and low temperature combine is favourable for the development of the late blight disease, according to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) experts.

Giving details H S Rewal, Head, Department of Plant Pathology said with the night temperature falling down with dew formation, there are chances of appearance of late blight on potatoes during this month.

According to Dr Rewal late blight disease generally starts appearing in November in Punjab when weather conditions become favourable for the disease.

He advised the potato growers to give sprays of Indofil M-45 or Antracol or Kavach to prevent the attack of the disease. It has been seen that most of the farmers do not use sufficient quantity of spray solution which is must for adequate coverage of the foliage for better disease management, he said adding that the Indofil M-45 could be repeatedly sprayed after 7 to 10 days interval.
