Students stage demonstration for non-interference in educational mat
Imphal, Nov 15 (UNI) Large number of students, under the aegis of All Manipur Students Union and Democratic students Alliance of Manipur, today staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat here against the frequent interference by militants in academic matters.
Some teachers and officials of educational institutes also took part in the sit in protest.
Superintendent of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Y.Mohen, speaking during the protest, appealed to all to allow the educational institutes to function peacefully.
The students pointed out that militants demand money from the educational institutes resulting in disturbance in academic activities.
The teachers said they were being harassed if they did not meet the demands of the militants.
If the prevailing situation continues the academic career of the students would be adversely affected, it was stated.
Earlier, a rally was taken out in the state participated by students and teachers to demand free zone status for education sector.
