Kanaka Jayanti celeberated in K'taka
Udupi, Nov 15 (UNI) Kanaka Jayanthi, the birth anniversary of Kanakadasa, an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, was celebrated here today with great fervour and gaiety.
On the occasion, a procession was taken out in which several bhajan troups participated.
Inaugurating the 'Jayanthi Utsav', jointly organised by Paryaya Puttige Mutt, Kanaka Study and Research Centre and the District Kanaka Jayanthi Celebration Committee, Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya called upon the Kanaka Study and Research Centre to initiate research and publication work on the life and works of Kanakadasa.
He said the Government was ready to provide additional grants for this purpose.
Complementing the Centre for bringing out 'Kanakopanishat' a first critical work on the life and works of Kanakadasa and written by renowned scholar Bannanje Govindacharya within a month after its inception, Mr Acharya said Udupi attained special importance as it was the holy place where Kanakadasa had 'Darshan' of Lord.
The government had decided to celebrate the Jayanthi in Bangalore, Udupi and Bada, the birth place of Kanakadasa, besides all district head quarters from this year onwards to inspire and create awareness about his greatness among the people, he said.
Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Puttige Mutt said though the Jayanthi was celebrated in Udupi every year, this year was special as government machinery and Kanaka Adhyayana Samshodhan Kendra participated in it.
