Coldest night in Srinagar, Kokernag was very cold
Srinagar, Nov 15 (UNI) People in the summer capital of Srinagar, experienced coldest night of the season so far as the temperature dipped to 0.5 degree Celsius due to first snowfall.
However, Kokernag in south Kashmir was the coldest in the Kashmir Valley where the temperature was recorded at minus 1.1 degrees this morning.
Heavy to moderate snowfall in the Kashmir valley, including city and its adjoining areas yesterday, resulted in considerable drop in the temperature disrupting normal life.
The coldest night of the season was recorded last week when the minimum was recorded at 1.9 degree.
However, due to snowfall and open sky, the temperature further dipped this morning to 0.5 degree, forcing people to use all means to keep themselves warm.
Dealers selling different heating equipment, including gas and electric heaters besides shopkeepers dealing in woolen and other warm clothes brisk business.
Tourists from different states were also seen purchasing warm clothes and shoes in the city.
Kokernag in south Kashmir was the coldest where the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 1.1 degree followed by minus 0.9 at world famous tourist resort of Pahalgam, the base camp of holy Amarnath cave. Kupwara in north Kashmir and Qazigund on Srinagar- Jammu national highway in south Kashmir recorded minus 0.1 degree this morning.
A weather office spokesman said today that weather will improve this afternoon.
