875 in fray for 70 Assy seats in Delhi after scrutiny and withdrawl
New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) A total of 875 candidates are in fray in 70 seats of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, polls to which are to be held on November 29, after scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers, sources in the Delhi electoral office said tonight.
Out of the 1,086 nominations filed for the 70 assembly seats, 875 remained after scrutiny and withdrawal, the sources said.
A total of 1,086 candidates had filed their nominations for 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly when nominations closed on November 11.
Of the 1,086, 937 were found valid. On the last day of withdrawl on November 14, 62 candidates withdrew their candidature, thus leaving 875 in fray for 70 assembly seats.
Of the 875 in fray, the highest number 105 each are in fray in North east and North districts, while the lowest 80 are in fray in South district.
The highest number of 25 candidates are in fray from New Delhi constiuency, where Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is pitted in a contest against BJP leader Vijay Jolly while the lowest number of three candidates are in fray in Ghonda in North East distict.
11 canidates are in fray from Greater Kailash assembly seat, where BJP chief Ministerial candidate Vijay Kumar Malhotra is contesting.
As per the notification, November 11 had been fixed as the last date for filing of nominations.
November 14 was the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures.
Counting of votes will be taken up on December 8. The term of the present Legislative Assembly of Delhi is expiring on December 17.
