Rebel ULFA leader's vehicle attacked

Guwahati, Nov 14 (UNI) In the first attack on rebel ULFA leaders who breached the group's discipline to announce unilateral cease-fire, unidentified miscreants attacked ULFA 'commander' Jiten Dutta's vehicle in eastern Assam's Dibrugarh district yesterday.

He was, however, not in the vehicle and the other passengers, including another rebel ULFA leader 'corporal' Joon Bhuyan, escaped unhurt.

Dutta was scheduled to travel in the vehicle from Tinsukia, though last minute changes held him back.

This is the first attack on the rebel ULFA faction after the 'alpha' and 'charlie' companies of the outfit's most lethal '28th battalion' had come out of cease-fire in June this year.

Dutta headed the 'charlie' company of the 'battalion'. Police are investigating the case, though the involvement of active ULFA cadres has not been ruled out.
