Brother of key accused gets 10-day remand in blast case

Ahmedabad, Nov 14 (UNI) A local court today remanded Rafiuddin Shaikh, brother of key terror accused Qayamuddin Kapadia, in ten-day police custody in connection with July 26 Ahmedabad serial blast.

Metropolitan Magistrate G M Patel, after hearing the arguments of both sides, sent 28-year-old Rafiuddin in police remand till November 24.

Rafiuddin was arrested by the city crime branch in connection with the Ahmedabad Serial Blast in which over 60 people were killed and around 200 others injured in nearly 20 blasts that rocked the city on July 26, 2008.

Qayamuddin was recently arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police from Indore and will soon be brought to Ahmedabad by the crime branch. He was the key conspirator and also implemented July 26 terrorist strike in Ahmedabad on July 26.

Rafiuddin is a resident of Taiwad in Vadodara and working in a printing press there. He was in the know of the conspiracy and had also provided logistic support during the terrorist camp held in Halol, near Vadodara in January, 2008.

Police said Rafiuddin and another accused Usman Aggarbattiwala had rented the tents. Crime Branch officials were tipped that Raifuddin was on his way to Ahmedabad and was arrested yesterday.
