Bahujan Mahasangh stages 'dharna' against Dow

Pune, Nov 14 (UNI) Prakash Ambedkar led 'Bahujan Mahasangh' activists today staged a ''Dharna'' in front of the district collectorate to protest the Dow project at Chakan here.

They also raised slogan ''dow hatao santa bhumi bachao''.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Ambedkar said, '' this dharna is the part of a state-wide agitation'' by his party. He claimed his party had received support from other parts of the state as well against Dow. He claimed Sant Tukoba and others will support him in the agitation.

Mr Ambedkar warned that '' the protest can turn violent if the issue is not resolved soon.'' When asked about Dow president Ramachandran's claim on Chakan project that the unit was only for research and development and not for manufacturing activity, Ambedkar said Dow had obtained the licence only for manufacturing activity and not for R&D.

He also warned the Government to look into the matter thoroughly.

Over a hundred activists belonging to Bahujan Mahasangh participated in the Dharna.
