More Central forces needed to counter Maoist menace: Yechury
Kolkata, Nov 13 (UNI) CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury today said the Centre should send more Central forces and come out with assistance to the West Bengal Government to counter Maoist attacks in the state.
'' It is for the Centre to despatch more Central forces and assist the state Government against Maoist depredation,'' he told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.
His comment came amid the raging unrest at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district following alleged police excess on the local tribals.
Police had conducted raids in the area to crackdown on those involved in the November 2 landmine blast, triggered by the underground Maoists targeting Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
Mr Yechury said besides taking administrative measures, a sustained political effort was needed to check the Maoists.
