25 lakh children in NE get ICDS benefit

Agartala, Nov 13 (UNI) About 25 lakh children in the Northeastern state, including Sikkim, have been provided pre-school education, besides supplementary nutrition, health check-up and immunisation so far under Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Scheme.

Tripura Social Welfare Minister Bijita Nath told mediapersons here today that 1,46,369 children, in the age group of 3-6 years, in Tripura were provided pre-school education through innovative methods at anganwadis.

The highest number of children were recorded in Assam at 12,72,429 while lowest number was in Sikkim at 10,589, Mrs Nath revealed, adding the children felt more comfortable as generally they were accompanied by their mothers and Anganwadi workers were from their neighbourhood.
