ZP opposes 'Greater Talacauvery' project
Madikeri, Nov 12 (UNI) The Zilla Panchayat strongly opposed the move by some environmentalists forcing the Karnataka Government to introduce 'Greater Talacauvery' project.
A resolution opposing the move was passed at the Karnataka Development review meeting held under the chairmanship of ZP President Deergakeshi Shivanna.
The members took strong objection to the move and urged the chair to write to the Government not to support any such move.
Kannada Jagruthi Samity President T P Ramesh said that there is danger of villagers being displaced and lands becoming 'No Mans' zone if the above project is allowed to be implemented.
Meanwhile, the meeting observed that the Employment Assurance programme in the district was not implemented properly. The President cautioned the Executive Officers of Somwarpet and Virajpet against their failure in implementing the project and said that they will be reported to government, if they show no progress.
