Sex worker arrested for possessing brown sugar
Bhubaneswar, Nov 12 (UNI) Sleuths of Police and Excise department in a joint raid today seized 52 grams of brown sugar from a sex worker at Malisahi area, the capital's redlight area.
Excise Sub-Inspector P Patnaik said acting on a tip-off the team intercepted one Roshnara Bibi and seized the contraband from her possession.
He said she was arrested under Section 21(1) of the NDPS Act 1985 for illegal possession and trading of the drug and presented before the court. The court later sent her to jail.
He said Roshanara was originally from the Midnapur district of West Bengal and had been staying with her husband at Malishai for last 15 years.
In other case, excise men intercepted a three-wheeler near Rajmahal square and seized eight cartons of non duty ginger worth around Rs 24,000.
The driver was arrested under section 47A(1) of the Bihar and Orissa Excise Act for illegal possession and transportation of non duty material and was forwarded to the court, Mr Patnaik said.
