Punjab increases sugarcane prices
Chandigarh, Nov 12 (UNI) Punjab Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah today announced State Assured Price (SAP) of sugarcane for the crushing season of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
During a meeting of the sugarcane control board presided over by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it was decided to fix the price of the advanced, medium and late variety of sugarcane at Rs 165, Rs 160 and Rs 155 per quintal for 2008-2009.
Likewise, the prices of these varieties had been fixed at Rs 180, Rs 175 and Rs 170 per quintal for the crushing season of year 2009-2010, Mr Langah said.
He expressed hope that with an increase of SAP the sugar industry both in private as well as cooperative sector would be benefitted alongwith the cane growers.
