One killed, 6 trapped in building collapse in Mumbai
Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) One person was killed when a five-storey building collapsed near Crawford Market in south Mumbai today.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sources said one youth was killed and six others were trapped under the rubble of Sayyed building, whose rear wall started shaking and collapsed at around 0530 hrs before the occupants could get out.
The building was owned by one Dr Sayyed Imran, who was also staying in the same building.
Eight fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot, which were busy in removing debris. A JCB has also been used to clear the rubble.
The officials are investigating the cause of the collapse, but the age of the building, said to be 60-70 years old, is suspected to be the main cause.
An ongoing construction of a neighbouring building was also suspected to have played a role in collapse of the building.
The rescue operation was still on, the sources added.
