Mangalore: 186 students get excellency awards

Mangaluru, Nov 12: As many as 186 students from Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod district who have excelled in SSLC, PUC and graduation received the academic excellency awards from the District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar at Academic Excellency Awards distribution programme organised by the Yenepoya Foundation here on Tuesday, Nov 11.

As many as ten students who got free management seats in YMDC under merit cum means basis were also awarded on the occasion. More than 16 schools and Colleges were given excellency awards.

Speaking on the occasion, District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar said recognising the students and awarding them is a noble work. Medical colleges should come forward and help the poor students by recognising their merit.

Stating that there is a need to ban use of mobile phones in colleges, he said “mobile phones have taken away the valuable relationship. Students are the sources of the country. Should we spoil them by giving mobile phones at the tender age," he questioned.

Yenepoya University Vice-Chancellor Prof Syed Akheel Ahmed, MLA U T Khader, Yenepoya Foundation Chairman Mohammed Kunhi, Chancellor Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi and others were present on the occasion.
